New Delhi – Food & shopping 3-5 Apr

We were looking forward to going to Delhi as there were promises of KFC and FabIndia.
Arriving late at night, we were thankful to be picked up by our guest house driver and skipped the touts at the train station. The driver’s main aim was to get us to our accommodation at light speed and drove like we were the only car on the road but did get us to the place ‘safely’.

Surprisingly, Delhi was not what we had anticipated. It was easy to get around with Metro (MRT) and save the hassle of haggling with auto-rickshaws. We felt safe as there were tight security checks everywhere (metro, restaurants, retail shops etc) we went including movie theatre! We had wanted to watch Clash of the Titans (finally found one in English!) but no backpacks allowed! (Shawn, you know what to do when we get back. Hahaa.)
As we have come to the 4th week mark of our trip, we were happy to be in Delhi as there was a variety of food to choose from. Apart from KFC (which we had twice for the 2 days we were there!), we had as much Chinese food as we could and happy to find sweet pastries!
To sum it, we kind of like Delhi. Hehe.

Everything is ‘deluxe’ in Delhi, even the toilet!

Huge crowd at a corner shop selling milk shake and we could not resist, really yummy!

We walked for a long time to see the ‘India Gate’ and was disappointed to see this..

Saw a huge crowd a distance away and realised the real India Gate is further away - built to commemorate the Indian soldiers fighting for the British Empire in the First World War.

Cool shot by me!
The names of the soldiers were inscribed on the walls.

Chinese food! We loved Delhi cos there was KFC, Chinese Food, Japanese Food etc..

Delhi Metro - Locals queuing..hmm…feels like Japan!

Jeff wants to try local barber skills…(after a few days, lament that mine is better! Haha. I can set up a stall here to make some spare cash..)

Old Delhi Red Fort – A local told us it was closed!.But we din believe him. True enough, it was opened! (2nd such incident in Delhi.)

Inside the fort..

I did not know that I’m so famous in India. Passer-bys kept asking for a shot with me. Hehe.

Another one…so people back home better treasure your photos of me. Haha. You can sell them in India!!

The largest mosque in India – we din go in cos we have to pay for our camera and we are cheapo!

Bazaar just right outside. Exciting!

Neon lights streets near train station where we stayed the night before heading up the mountains.

Check out the bundle of blanket folded into a flower!

  5. haha, it should come as a shock to many in Singapore to see that users of the Delhi Metro behave so disciplined. Perhaps it might be a good idea to spread this image, so as to make people aware that disciplined behaviour in Metro stations is possible.

  6. I suddenly became a moviestar in Taiwan (didn't you notice the striking similarity between me and Al Pacino?). It's good to hear that Singaporeans also become moviestars when travelling to other countries.
